Indicators of Good Practice PDF Print E-mail

 

Good schools of the 21st century would, as a matter of course, have made some strides towards satisfying the fundamentals of education delivery. What would be some of the indicators pointing to good practices in a school? Here are a few, what would you add?

 

  • Extra classes for, in particular Grade 12 learners (in FET band)
  • Strict monitoring of attendance rates (learners and teachers)
  • Effective maintenance of discipline
  • Ethos conducive to learning at the school
  • Effective support system for learners (e.g. career guidance, counseling, etc)
  • Evident commitment by teachers and learners
  • Highly qualified and experienced teachers
  • Effective support of the principal by the SGB
  • Effective support of the teachers by the SMT
  • Continual involvement of all stake holders in school planning, monitoring and evaluation
  • Daily and weekly staff meetings
  • Constant interaction with neighbouring schools
  • Adequate involvement of learners in extramural activities
  • Common planning template for teachers
  • Outreach programmes, particularly those that are conducted by learners
  • Effective and regular monitoring of planning and delivery of lessons
  • Effective and regular internal moderation of assessment of learner achievement
  • Strong parental involvement and support
  • Learner mentoring system
